Our Vision
A Community Transformed by Faith, Hope, and Love
We envision West Oxford United Church as a bold, connected, and evolving community — a place of diverse, courageous, hope-filled people united in deep spirituality, inspiring worship, and daring justice.
A People Rooted in the Sacred
We envision a congregation where spiritual depth is cultivated — through contemplative prayer, honest wrestling with scripture, and the daily practice of living in God's presence.
A community where faith is not merely held but lived, and where every person is supported on their unique spiritual journey.
Gathered in Wonder and Praise
We envision worship that is alive — that moves hearts, challenges minds, and sends people out renewed. Worship that honours our rich tradition while remaining open to the Spirit's fresh movements.
Services that are accessible, authentic, and deeply connected to the real lives of real people in rural Ontario.
Acting for a Better World
We envision a church that does not remain silent in the face of injustice — one that advocates for the dignity of every person, works for reconciliation, and takes seriously our responsibility to care for God's creation.
Faith without action is incomplete; our vision includes both.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18
Building the Church We Are Called to Be
Vision without intention is just wishful thinking. At West Oxford United, we are actively working to build the church our community needs — and that God is calling us to become.
This means welcoming people who have never felt welcome in a church before. It means creating programs that speak to real needs — of families, of elders, of young people navigating a complex world. It means being honest about where we have fallen short and courageous in the commitment to do better.
It also means celebrating what is already remarkable: 220 years of unbroken community, a heritage that grounds us, and a faith that has sustained countless generations through every joy and hardship.
Right Relations with All Peoples
As part of The United Church of Canada, we are committed to the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples — moving toward repentance, repair, and right relations as an expression of our deepest values.
Care for Creation
Nestled in the agricultural heartland of southwestern Ontario, we are acutely aware of our dependence on and responsibility toward the natural world. Creation care is not an optional extra — it is a core expression of our vision.
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint, educating our congregation about ecological stewardship, and supporting policies that protect the land, water, and air that sustain all life.
The same land our founding settlers farmed and prayed over deserves our most faithful and thoughtful stewardship today.
Help Shape What We Become
The vision of West Oxford United Church is not a destination — it is an ongoing journey. Every person who joins this community becomes part of how the vision unfolds.
