Our Mission
Loving God. Serving Others. Building Community.
We are a congregation called to proclaim the love of God in Jesus Christ through meaningful worship, genuine fellowship, and compassionate service to all — especially those on the margins.
Rooted in more than 220 years of faithful ministry in rural Oxford County, we continue the work of every generation before us: welcoming the stranger, caring for the vulnerable, and bearing witness to a gospel of justice, mercy, and grace.
Our mission is not a program or a strategy — it is a way of life. It is seen in the warmth of our welcome, the depth of our pastoral care, the generosity of our service, and the authenticity of our worship.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
Four Pillars of Our Mission
Our mission is expressed through four interconnected commitments that shape our life together and our service to the world.
Worship & Prayer
Authentic worship is at the heart of who we are. Each Sunday we gather to praise God, hear scripture, and be sent out renewed in purpose. Our prayer life — both communal and personal — sustains everything else we do.
We believe that encountering the living God in worship transforms not just the individual, but the community and the world around us.
Faith Formation
We are committed to nurturing faith at every age and stage — from Sunday School for children to adult study groups. We believe that deepening our understanding of the faith makes us more compassionate, more courageous, and more effective in the world.
Learning together fosters the kind of community where questions are welcome and curiosity is honoured.
Pastoral Care
We believe that caring for one another is one of the most sacred expressions of Christian community. Our pastoral care ministry reaches out to those who are lonely, grieving, ill, or struggling — offering a compassionate presence in every season of life.
No one in our community should face their hardest moments alone.
Outreach & Justice
Our faith calls us beyond our walls. We engage in local outreach efforts — supporting neighbours facing food insecurity, partnering with community organizations, and advocating for a more just and caring society.
Through The United Church of Canada's Mission & Service work, we participate in global humanitarian efforts as well.
Faith That Makes a Difference
A mission statement only matters when it is lived out. At West Oxford United, our faith is expressed in tangible acts of love and service.
We support local food banks and community meal programs. We visit the elderly and homebound. We mentor young people and invest in the next generation of faith. We open our space to community groups and celebrate the milestones of our neighbours' lives.
And in all of this, we are shaped and sustained by the same Spirit that has guided this congregation since 1804 — the Spirit of a God who is always doing something new.
Community InvolvementBe Part of Something Meaningful
Our mission is carried out by ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. There is a place for you in this work — whatever your gifts, your background, or your season of life.
