About Our Church
A Community of Faith for Over Two Centuries
West Oxford United Church is more than a building — it is a living, breathing community of people called together in faith, hope, and love.
Founded in 1804 as the first organized congregation in Oxford County, we have grown through generations of faithful witness in the rural heart of southwestern Ontario. Today we carry that legacy forward as an active, welcoming congregation of The United Church of Canada.
We are a multigenerational family of believers — farmers and tradespeople, longtime residents and newcomers — united by a shared commitment to worship, service, and the common good.
Our Core Values
These convictions anchor everything we do as a congregation.
Deep Spirituality
We seek an authentic encounter with the living God through prayer, scripture, worship, and the practice of presence in daily life.
Bold Discipleship
Following Jesus means more than Sunday attendance — it means courageous action, personal transformation, and living out our faith in every corner of daily life.
Daring Justice
We are called to work for peace, equity, and the care of creation — advocating for dignity and speaking truth in love, locally and globally.
Radical Welcome
Every person — regardless of age, background, or life experience — is a beloved child of God and is fully welcome in our community.
Authentic Community
We believe that real life is lived in relationship. We cultivate genuine fellowship, mutual care, and the honest sharing of life's joys and struggles.
Care for Creation
Rooted in rural Ontario, we have a deep appreciation for the land and a responsibility to protect and steward God's creation for future generations.
Part of a National Family of Faith
West Oxford United Church is a proud congregation of The United Church of Canada — the country's largest Protestant denomination, formed in 1925 by the union of Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational churches.
As part of this national family, we are connected to thousands of communities of faith across Canada and beyond, sharing in mission work, leadership training, and the ongoing call to love God and serve others.
The United Church's call and vision is to be a bold, connected, evolving church of diverse, courageous, hope-filled communities — a vision we embrace wholeheartedly here in rural Oxford County.
Our MissionA Cemetery as Old as the County
Our historic cemetery is one of the oldest in Oxford County, with first burials dating to 1817 — containing the graves of many of the earliest settlers of the district from the 1790s.
These sacred grounds are a living archive of our community's story, connecting the present congregation with the pioneering families who first cleared the land and built this place of worship.
In 1909, the church donated the west side of the cemetery property to the Village of Beachville, further cementing its role as a community landmark for generations to come.
